The Vennel as the sun goes down

This is one I got of the Castle from the Vennel (which runs from the Grassmarket up to Lauriston Place). I love this view of the Castle, one which never gets old to me! I got this one just after the lights came on one evening, while there was still plenty of light in the sky!

Fire in the Skies

I was fortunate enough to capture this spectacular sunset over Edinburgh earlier in the Autumn. I'm not sure whether I've ever seen a sunset quite like it. This particular view of Edinburgh from Calton is spectacular enough as it is and the colours and shapes in the sky made it just perfect! I was certainly glad I decided to take my camera out with me when I went for a walk!

Down Princes Street at Night

Light Trails on Princes Street

This is another of my favourite views of Edinburgh! There's a certain spot on Calton Hill (just at the bottom of the Nelson Monument) from which you can see right along Princes Street from one end to the other. Of course, there's the ever fantastic Balmoral Hotel on the left to complete the view! Visiting after dark allows some nice light trails along the street when taken with a long exposure!

Light Trails By the Parliament

A long exposure photograph of the light trails on the Queen's Drive that runs along the edge of Holyrood Park. That's the Parliament in the middle of the shot and, of course, the familiar silhouette of Calton Hill behind.

There's amazing sights to be seen everywhere in Edinburgh. All too often we're looking at eye level or down at the ground but look up and there's much beauty to be seen at roof level too...especially in the old town where there is a huge amount of history readily visible!

White Horse Close at Night

I'm lucky enough to live just round the corner from this spot. White Horse Close is at the very bottom of the Royal Mile, just opposite the new Scottish Parliament. Although it is somewhat of a stereotypical and much photographed location, it is often missed by tourists visiting due to access being via a somewhat nondescript close! I make sure I never miss it on the way past however!

The Two Bridges

With the Forth Bridge in the background and the Forth Road Bridge in the foreground, the view from Port Edgar is truly stunning. This long exposure really allowed me to smooth out the night time water and get that classic 'star-burst' effect on the bridge lights. As it was a clear night, the stars were easily visible too!

Snow-covered Victoria Street

Some heavy snow overnight brought Edinburgh to a standstill and this was one of the views for those who got up early! Victoria Street/ The West Bow is always spectacular but in my opinion even more stunning in the snow!
